Violin for Preschoolers

Posted on by

Where do some of our most advanced students in the Suzuki movement come from?  They start as preschoolers.  At this young age children are learning the most difficult things about music without effort.  Their ears and emotions are sponges to their environment.  The Mirror neurons are running at full capacity.  They revel in games and repetition.  When learning in a safe, enriched environment their minds are like sticky paper.

It is so important at this age to get the best possible start from a teacher who has the patience and curiosity about a child’s potential for learning.  It also makes a huge difference if she has the years of training and experience to demystify preschoolers and adapt the pace of learning to their unique individual needs. While the rate of learning seems slow to the untrained eye, don’t be fooled by how much these young minds are taking in.  They are learning deeply and imitating with a surprising degree of accuracy.  Everything which is acquired now lays a foundation for the next new thing that comes after it.  Therefore, it is important to start with great care.

Ms. Cynthia offers two pathways for parents who desire to start children as preschoolers.  Most important in either path is the development of musical parenting in the home.  The Suzuki Method’s nickname is the “Mother Tong Method”.  Parents are the walking talking environments which their children are influenced by and the Suzuki Method takes every advantage of that in either style of instruction.
